Sorry I've been MIA lately;

Seriously. I feel terrible for missing out on posting lately; I've just been super busy with school, homework, Steph's birthday was last week, and occasionally working. However, in this post, I'm going to share with what I've been up to as of late so let's begin shall we?

Number 1; I attempted [& succeeded] to beat "Legend Of Zelda; Ocarina Of Time" in a week!

One game I played growing up more than anything was Ocarina Of Time, and it was actually one of the first Zelda games I ever played. So I went through with purchasing a copy of the game on the Wii Virtual Console [I do have a physical cartridge of the original N64 game somewhere.].and continuously played it until I beat it! I won't lie though, I forgot how much I really disliked the Water Temple. & because I know some of you are wondering, the answer is 'yes'.. I am currently playing Majora's Mask!

Number 2; I went for my interview for Victim Services. [volunteering]

Technically the picture above doesn't really make sense for what I'd be doing but it was the closest thing to the actual thing. Anyway, I went for the interview on Friday, and I believe it actually went quite well! It was roughly 15 minutes long, and the interviewer asked a load of questions, which she claimed I answered well. Now, I just have to wait a few weeks for an email on how to prepare for the training.. [here's hoping I get this email soon]

———————————————————————————–
So this is a rough sum up of what I've been up to lately. I should be posting more and more soon, as I'm off work for the rest of the week, unless I take someone's shift- although I do need the hours. Be sure to like the fan page for this blog on Facebook; which you can find here, in the comments below or on Twitter here . If you have a Tumblr, follow me here. DVD Boxset Of The Day; Beetlejuce [the animated series]

 http://poggroup.com/td/wp-content/uploads/2012/11/Beetlejuice-cartoon.png

One of the reasons I started this blog was to mention things about horror movies/movies in general that I like [or that I'm excited for] & also to give information on things that geeks like myself would enjoy. Lately, I haven't done much but catch up on the movies I haven't watched yet [that I felt the need to finally see] / work / school. But this past Wednesday, After I finished my slideshow assignment for Philosophy class, I decided that I should check Facebook and I came across something beautiful.. Beetlejuice; The Animated Series is coming out as a box set on both DVD and Blu-ray! [FINALLY!]

Being the Tim Burton fan that I am, I can honestly say I have been waiting for this for as long as I can remember.. which feels like forever! For those of you that aren't familiar with the series, it follows the life of goth teen Lydia Deetz [who- in the film version- was played by one of my first celebrity crushes: Winona Ryder!], who lives in the small suburb of Peaceful Pines, and her wisecracking supernatural friend Beetlejuice, who can only be summoned into the natural world [or sent back to his own otherworldly realm] by repeating his name 3 times..

This Beetlejuice box set is being officially released on May 28 2013, and [unfortunately for me] will be available exclusively through Amazon. They are taking preorders now however.. I gotta say, I'm fucking stoked for this; because I'm a sucker for box sets of my childhood favorite shows [one such box set I have is the box set from the 1967 animated series of Spider-Man on DVD] So naturally, this one is going to have to be purchased as well- if I can get 'Goosebumps' & 'Are You Afraid Of The Dark?' as well I'm good to go. What are some of your favorite shows? [current/childhood favorites]  Let me know on the fan page for this blog on Facebook; which you can find here, in the comments below or on Twitter here . If you have a Tumblr, follow me here. NEW movie review; the film? Oldboy [2005]

I was going to wait to do this review tomorrow [considering it's nearly midnight, and I gotta be up for 8:15am tomorrow, school starts at 10] but it can't wait; Oldboy is one of those films that needed to be reviewed as I finished it. [quite literally, I just finished it] What can I say about this film? One thing.. holy fuck. I promise, that's a good thing. So let's get on with this review, shall we?
———————————————————————————–
Due to the nature of the film, I naturally didn't want Stephanie watching as well. So with her at her brother's place for the next 2 days, I figure this is my chance to watch the films that she has no interest in. So like I said, it's hard to choose words to describe this film. I feel that 'HOLY FUCK..' sums it up pretty good. But that's because it's really all I can really say right now. [I keep thinking of the film] The thought [and the acting] that went into this film is just so so so extreme, and at every turn, my jaw hurt from being on the floor. [or in my case, the bed] Oh yeah, did I mention our friend Oh Dae-su [the main character] actually eats a live squid? [don't say I didn't warn you.]

 [yeeeeeah, that's kinda gross, bro.]
 ———————————————————————————–

The ending actually kinda bugged me at first [SPOILER; the fact that he was locked up for 15 years for THAT?!] but as the ending delved deeper, and we find out who Mi-do truly is.. I couldn't help but be impressed. [grossed out, but impressed] I can safely say of all the revenge films I enjoy, this one is certainly up near the top of the list; cause it's fucking beautiful.. and it damn well knows it, the story telling, the acting, everything.. I'm officially finding myself I'm still in awe of everything that I just witnessed with my own two eyes.. [this film officially makes me want to watch MORE Korean horror/thrillers; cause they're too fucking awesome in their own brutal way.] One last note; Although this movie is fucking weird, creepy, amazing, and all sorts of other adjectives I could choose from, I strongly recommend it.. y'know, if you've got the stomach for it. CHEERS !

This one's dedicated to all you geeks out there [myself included!]

After noting 2 new horror flicks coming up that I'm excited for in my last post, I figured that since this blog is about both horror and geekery; I figured that this time, I'll mention some geekery that I'm excited for that I feel that only a geek would truly understand..
———————————————————————————–

 NUMBER 1; Portal & Half-Life Movies Coming Soon?

http://fontmeme.com/images/Portal-Cover.jpg

If I showed you this picture, chances are you'd know I'm talking about the video game 'Portal'. [and not just because you read it at the bottom of the picture] Well, apparently Portal is a big enough deal that J.J. Abrams [director of Star Trek, and the new Star Wars movie] is actually developing this to make it into a big screen movie. & it seems it's not only Portal either, he's also looking to make a Half-Life movie as well;

[picture taken from here] Surely, I'm not the only one who sees the resemblance?
———————————————————————————–

Thankfully, J.J. Abrams plans on working closely with Valve to make sure he gets the story right, and explains how video games actually sometimes explain stories a little bit better than a movie. For example, when it comes to Portal, Abrams points out that Portal's slow reveal of its characters and plot was an almost perfect way to build a mysterious atmosphere, he goes on to say "You start 'Portal' with no idea why you're there. The whole game is about figuring out the mystery and what's going on. The more you play the game, the more you learn & the more you felt."  I'm not entirely sure I know how I feel about these games becoming movies, but one thing is for sure; if Abrams is sticking close to Valve to get their opinion as he goes, then I'm game.. no pun intended.

NUMBER 2; Planet Hulk Live Action Film
http://spinoff.comicbookresources.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/02/planet-hulk.jpg

As a avid comic reader, I can't help but include this news update. I originally heard about [okay, technically "read about"] this on a posting by GeekTyrant but I figured that it's such an awesome thought, I should share it. The idea is as follows; In the comics, Hulk is deemed too dangerous for mankind [he kind of is though, just saying] and so a few of Marvel's best heroes send him to space to live on one of the most peaceful planets out in the galaxy- except it completely takes a turn for the worst and he ends up on a planet called 'Skaar'.. a planet which people fight using swords and shields and the like. It's basically Hulk meets Spartacus. [as seen in the picture-] If this happens; I can hereby say that my geek side can officially die happy, so long as they use Mark Ruffalo [for those that aren't aware, I was actually really impressed by Ruffalo's version of Hulk- even if I was worried at first] as our favorite scientist and stop changing the actor who plays Bruce Banner on a daily basis..
 ———————————————————————————–
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/9/95/Dr_Strange_by_Steve_Ditko.jpg/250px-Dr_Strange_by_Steve_Ditko.jpg
 Also, Marvel plans on making Ant-Man & Doctor Strange movies as well, which [once again] makes me extremely happy; [I for one, have always enjoyed Doc Strange.] However, there is no news on who's going to be playing these characters.. Guess we'll have to wait and see.
———————————————————————————–
So which of these seem the most appealing to you? Is it the game based movies? Planet Hulk? The idea that there is [finally] going to be both an Ant-Man/Doctor Strange movie coming soon? Let me know on the fan page for this blog on Facebook; which you can find here, in the comments below or on Twitter here . If you have a Tumblr, follow me here. [Have a suggestion for a new post? April 2013 looks to be the month for us horror fans..

Seriously. There is a good number of horror films [that actually look good; not like that "Cockney's vs Zombies" crap, that's playing right in the theater where I work right now- even if that's for the film festival..] that are coming out in April, and there are two that I'm actually looking forward to. Back on January 5th 2013, I mentioned how Carrie was being pushed til October making us [I say 'us', because I'm sure I'm not the only one who's excited] have to wait a little longer than expected. However, there is TWO horror movies, that have actually been pushed forward, rather than back. Below, I mention which ones, and my thoughts.
———————————————————————————–

NUMBER 1; The Evil Dead [remake]

So I won't lie; when I first heard this was being remade, I got upset.. I knew for a fact that Hollywood has become obsessed with remaking almost every movie that I hold dear [forgive my abrupt rant] and ruining it dearly. and now my 2nd favorite horror film [first being 'A Nightmare On Elm Street-original] is being remade. HOWEVER, after the red band trailer came out, which can be found here, I changed my mind drastically. I had some of the same feelings watching the trailer, as I did watching the original film.. [Also, keeping a close eye on Bruce Campbell's tweets helped as well.] This film has been pushed forward a week now being released to theaters on April 5th, 2013.

on Twitter, he actually claimed he's proud of the remake, & fully approves of the end result. fuck yes!
———————————————————————————–

NUMBER 2; The Lords Of Salem

With an official trailer for this film which just came out the other day, [you can see it in all it's glory, here] I figured that this film needs to be mentioned. I first mentioned this movie on December 20th, 2012; and talked about how stoked I was for it because it's [finally] an original Rob Zombie flick. [probably the first 'original' from him since 'The Devil's Rejects'- which is quite superb, if I may say.] It features a lot of actors/actress I've never even heard of; [except the always wonderful, Sheri-Moon Zombie, as seen in the poster above.] It was meant to be released on April 26th, 2013; however, many people demanded sooner [hopefully this won't ruin the quality of the film, due to being rushed.] and now it's actual release date is April 19th, 2013 [also a week earlier than before] There was also a collection of posters made for this film, rather than just the one with Sheri-Moon Zombie on the front, and those can be seen below;
